Buildout Analysis

New ConstructionA buildout analysis is an estimate of the maximum development that could occur in a community if every parcel of land were developed according to present zoning and resource protection laws. It attempts to describe what the community would look like if every piece of land were built to its maximum potential and what the effect of that would be on the community's resources. A buildout analysis is also a way of estimating future population, and the effect of this growth on resources. A build out analysis is a tool to help communities plan their future growth, preserve and enhance resources, and develop and maintain services. Old Colony Planning Council is currently conducting a buildout analysis of its member communities, updated from the 1999 statewide buildout study.
